Profile & Story
Tenuta Pian Delle Vigne is located 6 kilometers (3.5 miles) southwest of Montalcino. Its name comes from the eponymous area where a characteristic nineteenth century railway station is located. Pian delle Vigne stretches out over an area of 184 hectares (454 acres) of which 83 hectares (205 acres) are planted with vineyards that grow at an altitude of approximately 130 meters (426 feet) above sea level on south-west facing slopes. Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino expresses the pleasant fragrance of single varietal Sangiovese, Montalcino’s historic grape variety. The vineyards grow in calcareous, clay-based soils that produce a wine that is fresh, rich in mineral characteristics and exceptionally easy to drink.
Tasting Notes
Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino is ruby red in color. Aromas on the nose are delicate and fresh: characteristic notes of blood oranges, typical of this grape variety, encounter hints of white flower blossoms similar to jasmine. The palate is juicy and elegant with velvety savory tannins that accompany a long finish that closes with notes of red fruit and citrus fruit, especially grapefruits.
