Profile & Story
Anne Pichon's Sauvage estate sits in Mormoiron, at the foot of Mont Ventoux in the Vaucluse, southern Rhone. Marc and Anne Pichon took over the historic 50-hectare property in 2008 and have farmed it organically since. This Sauvage Orange bottling, labeled simply Roussanne on some restaurant lists, is a 70% Roussanne and 30% Sauvignon Blanc field blend grown on clay soil. Hand-picked and destemmed grapes are macerated on skins for roughly five to ten days in stainless steel with indigenous yeast and zero added sulfites, then aged about four months in tank; annual production is around 1,000 cases at 13% ABV. Because it blends in Sauvignon Blanc and uses extended skin contact, it falls outside AOP rules for the area and is bottled as Vin de France rather than under the Ventoux appellation.
Tasting Notes
Velvety tannins, minerality, and elegant aromatics of grapefruit, orange zest, peach, green almond, exotic fruit, and white flowers, with ripe stone fruit, crisp acidity, tangy citrus peel, and a subtle fino sherry note on the finish.
