Profile & Story
La Carbonera was established in Rioja Alavesa by the Torres family in 2007, drawing on 20 hectares of estate-owned bush vines averaging 45 years old at 650m elevation on limestone-and-marl soils, under winemaker Julio Carreter. The 2020 Malpastor Reserva is 92% Tempranillo with an 8% field blend of Garnacha Blanca, Viura, Malvasia and Garnacha Tinta, fermented in stainless steel with 20 days maceration, then aged 18 months in American, French and Hungarian oak barrels plus a minimum 18 months in bottle. It finishes at 14% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Ripe red fruit aromas layered with balsamic notes, oak spice, and hints of tobacco and vanilla. On the palate the wine is compact yet juicy, with savory plum, dry earth and dusty spice, framed by firm but smooth tannins.
