Profile & Story

Semina is a small Berkeley-based project devoted to Italian grape varieties grown in cool pockets of California's North Coast. This bottling is a 75% Cortese and 25% Arneis blend sourced from Fox Hill Vineyard on the Talmage Bench in Mendocino County, a benchland above the Russian River whose warm days and cool nights are likened to Piemonte. The certified-organic, hand-harvested fruit was foot-trodden and given brief skin contact, three days for the Cortese in stainless steel and seven days for the Arneis before pressing to neutral French oak barrique, with both lots aging about six months. The wine finishes at 11.7% ABV with minimal sulfur from a small production of roughly 280 cases.
