The Rassi Vineyard is a 16-acre, gravelly sandy-loam site on the eastern slope of Sonoma Valley at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, purchased by the Leonardini family, owners of Whitehall Lane, a Napa Valley-based family-owned winery founded in 1979, in 2012 from the Duncan-Rassi family. The 2023 Rassi Cabernet Sauvignon, made by winemaker Jason Moulton, is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot at 14.5% ABV. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed for whole-berry fermentation, cold-soaked, fermented with twice-daily pump-overs, then aged ten months in 20% new French oak and 80% neutral oak; bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes
This beautifully blended 2023 Rassi Cabernet Sauvignon is exquisitely balanced with excellent fruit concentration. On the nose it offers fresh blueberry pie, blackberries, Mission figs, lavender, and a touch of toasted bread. The palate offers smooth but delicate tannins, bursting with rich blackberry cobbler, stewed black plums, black cherries and toasted walnuts that linger on the finish.
