Weingut Bollig-Lehnert is a family estate based in Trittenheim, in the Mosel valley of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, with holdings extending into the neighboring villages of Piesport and Dhron. By the estate's own account, the family has worked in viticulture there for generations, tending its parcels by hand, and its stated philosophy centers on passion and tradition in every bottle, aiming to offer what it calls incomparable taste experiences. Its Trittenheim vineyards are planted mainly to fresh, elegant Riesling grown on the valley's slate soils, in styles ranging from dry to sweet; its Piesport holdings yield more complex Rieslings suited to special occasions; and its Dhron parcels produce the estate's Dhroner Hofberger Riesling. This wine, the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Spätlese 2020, comes from Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, one of the most celebrated individual vineyard sites on the Mosel — a steep, south-facing, amphitheater-shaped slope of decomposing blue and black slate rising above the village of Piesport, with the river reflecting sunlight back onto the vines. As a Spätlese, or 'late harvest,' the grapes were picked at a riper stage than for a Kabinett, concentrating natural sugars and aromatics in keeping with the traditional Mosel practice of retaining a measure of residual sweetness rather than fermenting fully dry.
