Francesco Rinaldi & Figli is a family-run Barolo estate founded in 1870 by Giovanni Rinaldi and still run today by his descendants, including Luciano Rinaldi, from the cellars in Alba. The estate farms roughly three hectares of Nebbiolo planted between 1980 and 1990, spread across three of Barolo's classic villages: the Rocche dell'Annunziata and Boiolo crus in La Morra, the Sarmassa and Vignane crus in Barolo, and the Codana cru in Castiglione Falletto. The soils are sandy throughout, with more sandstone in the Barolo and Castiglione Falletto sites and more clay and calcareous components in La Morra. This Barolo D.O.C.G. is 100% Nebbiolo, fermented in temperature-controlled cement or stainless-steel tanks with 25 to 30 days of skin contact; the lots are then blended and aged for about three years in large 5,000-liter Slavonian oak barrels before further refinement in bottle.
