Profile & Story

La Spinetta was founded in the early 1960s in Piedmont by Giuseppe 'Pin' Rivetti and his wife Lidia, farmers who paired respect for tradition with forward-looking curiosity. Their four children, Carlo, Bruno, Giorgio and Giovanna, carried the estate forward, and it is now guided by the next generation — Eleonora, Manuela and Andrea Rivetti — under the same values of humility, respect and ambition. La Spinetta has grown from its Castagnole delle Lanze headquarters to include an estate in Grinzane Cavour for Barolo and one in Terricciola, Tuscany, always favoring native varieties and a deep respect for the Piedmontese land. In 2018 the family extended this philosophy to the Tortona hills with the production of Timorasso. Their Colli Tortonesi Derthona is made from 100% Timorasso, an ancient indigenous Piedmont variety, sourced from vineyards in Montemarzino, Montegioco and Monleale at 350–400 meters of altitude, with south-west and south-east exposures and marly, calcareous, clayey soils with some sand; the vines average 25 years of age. The grapes are destemmed and softly pressed, then fermented at controlled temperature in small steel tanks before resting on noble lees for eight months and bottle-aging a further three months. The first vintage was 2019.
