Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most storied properties, with a history reaching back to the twelfth century as "La Mothe de Margaux" and rising to become one of the region's finest winemaking estates under the Lestonnac family from 1572 onward. Classified as a First Growth in the historic 1855 Classification, the property was purchased in 1977 by André Mentzelopoulos, who undertook a sweeping renaissance of the vineyards and cellars; his daughter Corinne Mentzelopoulos guided the estate for more than four decades, with her son Alexis now carrying the family's work forward, balancing continuity with progress. Margaux du Château Margaux is the estate's third wine, first bottled from the 2009 vintage after the fruit destined for it moved from bulk sale to barrel-aging under the château's own label. Designed as an accessible introduction to Château Margaux, it reflects the elegance and finesse of the estate's terroir while still passing through the estate's rigorous selection process. The 2018 blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, aged about 18 months in oak, roughly a quarter of it new French barrels, with average annual production around 60,000 bottles sold mainly through select restaurants and specialist wine merchants.
