Profile & Story
Moulin de Chauvigné was founded in September 1992 by Sylvie and Christian in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the Loire Valley, starting from just three hectares of vines with Christian tending the vineyards and Sylvie overseeing vinification; by 2016 the estate had grown to thirteen hectares. Christian passed away in November 2017, and Sylvie chose to carry the estate forward in his memory; their daughter Manon, trained at London's Savoy Hotel, joined the family business in 2018, and the property is now known as Les Cuvées des Elles in tribute to the women leading it. The fifteen-hectare estate is divided by the Loire River: seven hectares of Chenin Blanc lie on the right bank in the Savennières appellation, around Épiré where Sylvie grew up, while eight hectares sit on the left bank near Rochefort-sur-Loire on shallow soils of green-grey and purple shale. The estate has been HVE Level 3 certified since 2019, reflecting a high level of biodiversity and very limited use of inputs, and grape variety, clone and rootstock are chosen specifically to match soil and subsoil and express the terroir. The Intemporelles Savennières is a unique expression of this terroir and of Chenin Blanc, the estate's signature grape, grown on soils of green, grey and purple shale with wind-blown sand; a blend is assembled from lots at different stages of vinification to sublimate the classic Savennières style, aiming for a precise, crystalline wine with a broad range of aromas, good balance and harmony on the palate.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow in color, the wine offers aromas of lime-tree blossom and white flowers with a subtle note of honey, while the palate shows aromatic persistence and a delicate, well-defined minerality and finesse.
Pairing Recommendation
The producer suggests salmon ceviche as a starter, chicken tikka masala for a main, and white asparagus with mousseline sauce; best served at 9-12°C, it can be enjoyed young or cellared for up to ten years.
