Profile & Story

Bodegas Santiago Ruiz traces back to 1860, when Santiago Ruiz's grandfather founded the family winery in San Miguel de Tabagón. Santiago Ruiz himself — who founded his own winery in his seventies — bottled his first wines in 1981 and opened an official winery in the family home in 1984, devoting himself to a wine that would express the land of O Rosal and elevate native varieties like Albariño onto the world stage. A modern winery followed in Tomiño in 2007, and the estate celebrated its 40th harvest in 2024. Today his daughter Rosa Ruiz continues the family's stewardship of the historic family home, and the house's guiding philosophy remains balance — freshness, complexity, and elegance in every bottle. Positioned in O Rosal, one of the five subzones of Rías Baixas, the estate's proximity to the Atlantic yields wines that tend to be more floral, rounded, aromatic, and balanced than those of neighboring subzones. The Santiago Ruiz O Rosal blends five native varieties — Albariño, Loureiro, Caíño Blanco, Treixadura, and Godello — hand-harvested and selected grape by grape, a field blend built for complexity and freshness that reflects both the O Rosal terroir and Santiago Ruiz's original vision for the wine.

Tasting Notes

The wine shows as a complex, fresh white with a marked floral, saline, and mineral expression, reflecting the character of the land and the five-variety blend behind it.
