Seresin Estate was founded in the early 1990s by New Zealand-born cinematographer Michael Seresin, an acclaimed director of photography whose work spans films including Bugsy Malone, Midnight Express, and the Harry Potter series. After decades in film, Seresin set out to build a winery that made wine in the most natural way possible without compromising on quality — a philosophy of organics, wine, and food that remains the foundation of the estate today. Based in New Zealand's Marlborough region, Seresin farms according to organic and biodynamic principles. This Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is drawn from seven parcels within the estate's biodynamic Raupo Creek vineyard, a clay-rich, north-west-facing site in the center of the Omaka Valley with high sunshine hours and minimal rainfall. The blend is 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sémillon, from the MS, 316, and 317 Sauvignon Blanc clones and the BVRC14 Sémillon clone, harvested at a low yield of 13 tonnes per hectare. The grapes were pressed and the juice settled naturally before racking, with a portion fermented spontaneously in small stainless-steel tanks and the remainder in older French oak barriques and puncheons — 10% barrel fermentation, with no new oak — before the wine rested on lees for five months and was then blended, stabilized, and filtered. Alcohol is 12.5%, with a pH of 3.23.
