Profile & Story

Marco De Bartoli took over his mother's estate in 1980 after working for the large Marsala firm Cantine Pellegrino, and went on to single-handedly restore the international reputation of Marsala through his dedication to producing it at the highest level of quality and concentration. He passed away in 2011, and his sons continue the estate, which has since expanded to include vineyards on the island of Pantelleria. Bukkuram Sole d'Agosto — 'the sun of August' — takes its name from De Bartoli's own description of the essential ingredient in his passito: the August sun under which Zibibbo grapes are laid out to dry. It is the younger, lighter of the two passiti made each year from the Bukkuram vineyard.

Tasting Notes

A passito made from sun-dried Zibibbo grapes, typically showing concentrated dried apricot and honeyed orange notes balanced by the grape's natural aromatic lift, lighter and fresher than a longer-aged passito.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs well with almond or citrus-based desserts, or aged blue cheese.
