Profile & Story
Domaine de Rancy is a small estate in the Agly Valley of Roussillon, run by Jean-Hubert and Brigitte Verdaguer, continuing a domaine created in the 1920s and reoriented toward Rivesaltes production under Marcel Verdaguer starting in 1970. The property has been certified organic since 2011 and is one of a small handful of producers still making Rivesaltes in the traditional, oxidative Ambré style. The Rivesaltes Ambré is made entirely from the white Macabeu grape, fortified during fermentation in the Vin Doux Naturel method and then aged for years in an oxidative style that lets the wine be opened and enjoyed gradually over weeks or months without losing quality.
Tasting Notes
A fully oxidized amber Vin Doux Naturel, typically showing notes of dried fruit, walnut, caramel, and orange peel, with the rancio character that comes from extended barrel ageing.
Pairing Recommendation
Pairs well with dried fruit and nut desserts, aged cheese, or on its own as a digestif.
