G. Wanner is a small grower-Champagne label from the Côte de Sézanne, the side project of Pierre Hugot, the young vigneron behind Champagne Hélène, whose winemaking résumé runs through Burgundy houses including Comte Liger-Belair, Roulot, and Chavy-Chouet. The Côte de Sézanne lies at the southern end of Champagne, prized for Chardonnay grown on chalky, clay-rich soils that give a bright, mineral-driven style distinct from the more famous Côte des Blancs to its north. On this list, G. Wanner produces sparkling wine only. The Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut poured by the glass is 100% Chardonnay, built around a base vintage with a small addition of older reserve wine, fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, and finished at a low, Extra Brut dosage for a bone-dry style.
