Alteza
2022, Valle de Cafayate, Salta, Argentina
Profile & Story
This vineyard is located in Yacochuya, on the western slopes of Cafayate Valley, at 7200 feet of altitude. It shares the Pre-Cordillera foothill soil structures with Rupestre. It is planted on a terrace built centuries ago by Aboriginal inhabitants and is irrigated by snowmelt. This Malbec's character is given by minerality and structure. Fruit isn't the center but an accessory, overshadowed by conviction of terroir, which builds the personality that makes it so attractive.
Tasting Notes
Alteza’s nose is like a layer cake. Complexity unbounded. A red and dark tapestry of fruit interwoven with spices and herbs. The palate reflects this complexity with incredible balance. Mouthcoating velvet sensations that add depth to the texture. Good structure of very fine tannin! Incredible length in empty mouth, where the velvet carries the fruit and the tannin and the spice/herb notes for minutes.. Alteza is a Malbec from the Yacochuya region, on the western slopes of the Cafayate Valley in Salta. At an elevation of 6500 feet, this tiny 2-acre vineyard is planted on terraces built centuries ago by Original Peoples, and is still irrigated by the old canals that bring the spring water down from the mountain. For food pairing I always recommend the local maize, beans, pumpkin, and meat stew called “locro”? Not going for stews? Try grilled baby goat. Perfect match. Add meat empanadas as appetizers!
