Profile & Story
Leyda Origin Pinot Noir is the result of our devotion and passion for Viña Leyda’s emblematic variety: Pinot Noir. It reflects 15 years of work with this grape, as well as an in-depth soil study conducted in 2015. This wine comes from our El Maitén vineyard, from a specific polygon planted in 2008, located just 12 km from the Pacific Ocean. Its proximity to the sea makes it a unique site for cultivating white varieties and Pinot Noir, thanks to the low temperatures throughout the year, constant cold ocean breezes, and dense morning fogs, especially during the ripening period. This wine is our inspiration to speak about our valley, our place, and our origin. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was drained and 100% transferred to untoasted 2,000-liter foudres, where it aged for 12 months. There was no blending—the wine went directly from the foudre to the bottle, highlighting its unique and distinctive character. Without different components or aging in multiple vessels, it is a perfect expression of purity and traceability, from the calcareous soil to the final bottle.
Tasting Notes
Color: Ruby red. Nose: On the nose, it shows an herbaceous, almost thiolic character, with notes of basil leaves, tomato leaf, and subtle citrus hints. These are followed by tart red fruit notes such as raspberry and sour cherry, along with spicy nuances. Palate: On the palate, it has very fine tannins—delicate, vibrant, persistent, and tense—while also displaying a semi-creamy texture, reflecting the influence of the calcareous soil.
