Granbazán D. Álvaro de Bazán 2019
2019, Val do Salnés, Spain
Profile & Story
Granbazán Don Álvaro de Bazán 2019 is a premium, single-plot Albariño from D.O. Rías Baixas, produced from the highest vineyard parcel at Finca Tremoedo. The site is northeast-facing and rooted in sandy, decomposed granite soils known as xabre, which contribute a pronounced mineral structure to the wine. Grapes are harvested manually into 17 kg crates to ensure optimal handling. After harvest, the grapes undergo extended skin contact for just under 14 hours before a gentle free-run juice extraction. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, followed by an exceptionally long lees aging period of up to 24 months. This technique enhances mouthfeel, complexity, and aging potential. The final wine shows 13.90% alcohol, high total acidity at 7.79 g/L, and a pH of 3.35. Importer (Europvin USA).
