Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese
2021, Mosel, Germany
About the Wine
A rich, exotic Riesling with an electric, spicy tingle from the iron-infused red soil of the hyper-steep "spice garden" vineyard. This wine showcases the typically juicy and precocious fruit of the vineyard, with a rich mouth feel, brisk acidity, and lingering finish. Spätlese is produced with grapes that have a week or two of extra hang time, but still without any botrytis. The extra hang time on the vine gives them higher ripeness and deeper flavors.
Tasting Notes
The nose is cool and clear, offering herbal nuances alongside ripe, bright fruit and flinty terroir aromas. On the palate, the wine is lush and round, yet also savory, delivering a seductive and crystalline texture with saline and elegant notes. This Spätlese exhibits a harmonious balance between its juicy fruitiness and brisk acidity, resulting in a wine that is both rich and refreshing.
Pairing Notes
This Spätlese pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes, including coquille St. Jacques, angel food cake, or triple cream brie. Its vibrant acidity and subtle sweetness also make it an excellent match for spicy Asian cuisines, light seafood dishes, and fresh salads.
