Profile & Story
Celler Balart is a small family winery in Batea, in the Terra Alta appellation of southern Catalonia, founded by brothers Marc and Lluis Balart. The estate farms Garnatxa and Carinyena on the region's characteristic clay-limestone soils. The Amfora Negre is built from Mediterranean Garnatxa grapes aged in clay amphorae, a traditional technique that allows gentle, controlled oxygenation without imparting oak flavors, letting the grape's own fruit character and the amphora's subtle mineral influence come through.
Tasting Notes
Amfora Negre pours an intense cherry-red color. The nose offers ripe red and black fruit character with light notes of licorice and a subtle balsamic edge drawn out by the amphora aging. On the palate the wine is full-bodied yet silky, with fine tannins and well-integrated acidity leading to a long, elegant finish.

Pairs well with red meats, game, grilled dishes, stews, and aged cheeses.
