Profile & Story
Pares Balta is a family-owned winery in the Penedes, in Catalonia, with roots on the estate dating back to the 18th century and a reputation as a pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region. Mas Elena, dedicated to winemaker Maria Elena Jimenez, blends Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grown biodynamically on the estate's Els Pujols vineyards, hand-harvested and vinified separately by variety before blending. The wine is aged in second- and third-year French Allier oak barrels for a short period that preserves its fruit character.
Tasting Notes
Mas Elena is an intense red with blue hues. The nose offers an explosion of fruity aromas, with cherry and raspberry balanced by subtle notes of liquorice and spice. On the palate the wine enters elegantly and freshly, evolving into a meatier, more structured character, with a long finish that balances red fruit against toasted notes from the oak.
