Herdade do Esporao farms nearly 700 hectares of certified-organic vines and olive groves in the Alentejo - Portugal's largest organic estate, with boundaries unchanged since 1267. This red (sold in the US market as 'Bio Series Red', the same wine as Esporao's own Colheita Red on the producer's Portuguese site) blends Aragonez, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and other varieties from vines averaging 17 years old on granitic soil with schist transitions and a clay-loam structure. Grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then alcoholic and malolactic fermentation both take place in concrete and stainless-steel vats with soft extraction. 14% ABV.
