Profile & Story

Bernard Baudry founded this Chinon estate in 1975; son Matthieu joined in 2000 (organic-certified 2006). Les Granges is an 8-ha site of roughly 20-year-old Cabernet Franc along the Vienne at Cravant, on pure sand and pebbles with almost no clay, giving a light, fresh style. Destemmed uncrushed and gravity-filled to unlined cement vats, spontaneously fermented with native yeasts without sulfur or temperature control (about two weeks maceration), aged 7-10 months in concrete and bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur.
