Caneva da Nani is a small, fifth-generation family estate in the hilltop village of Guia, in Valdobbiadene, Veneto, farmed organically by the Canello family since the 1970s. Their Col Fondo bottling (“with the bottom”) is made in the rifermentazione-in-bottiglia style: still base wine is bottled with a touch of sugar and yeast and left to complete a natural secondary fermentation in bottle, without disgorgement, so a fine sediment of lees remains at the bottom. Made from 100% Glera, it forgoes the DOC label because crown-cap closures aren't permitted under Valdobbiadene DOC rules, even though the fruit comes from within the zone.
