Founded in the eighteenth century, Château Le Pape is a nine-hectare Pessac-Léognan estate in Léognan that has been under the stewardship of Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers — owners of neighboring Château Haut-Bailly — since 2012. The red wine is a Merlot-dominant blend of roughly eighty percent Merlot and twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon, produced in an average yield of around 30,000 bottles a year.
Tasting Notes
Merlot-dominant Pessac-Léognan reds in this style typically show dark fruit, cassis and a touch of tobacco and cedar, with fine-grained tannins and the appellation's characteristic gravelly minerality.
