Profile & Story

Domaine Lucien Crochet has farmed in Sancerre using organic amendments since 1989, working plots across the appellation planted to Sauvignon Blanc at high density, between 6,800 and 8,800 vines per hectare. Les Calcaires draws on multiple parcels within the estate whose soils are Oxfordian limestone, including the 'caillottes' and 'griottes' formations that give the domaine's white wines their mineral backbone. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September, lightly pressed as whole bunches, cold-settled for thirty-six hours, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel before seven months' aging on lees, followed by ten more months on fine lees ahead of bottling.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow in the glass, with a floral nose of hyacinth and honeyed blossom alongside ripe orchard fruit. The palate opens soft, with notes of custard and orange liqueur balanced by fresh acidity and a pleasant, gently bitter edge on the finish.

Pairing Recommendation

The domaine recommends it with salmon in beurre blanc, chicken in a light sauce, or truffle risotto, served around 10°C; it is built to age five to eight years.
