Profile & Story
Royal Tokaji was founded in 1990 by the wine writer Hugh Johnson and a small group of investors seeking to revive Hungary's historic wine region after the fall of Communism. Late Harvest is a blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű and Yellow Muscat; the 2018 vintage followed an unusually early harvest after a warm, dry autumn that favored simple grape drying over classic botrytis development, though the estate still selected enough premium Aszú berries to build the blend. The wine was pressed and fermented in tank, with the majority then aged five to six months in barrel before bottling in August 2019.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in color, with delicate citrus and spicy aromatics; the palate is light and refreshing, showing white peach and honey, excellent acid balance, a smooth, silky texture and a clean, crisp finish. (12% alcohol; 108 g/L residual sugar.)
Pairing Recommendation
Delicious on its own as an aperitif, or alongside spicy cuisine such as Thai food, fresh fruit, or any fruit-based dessert, served cool.
