Arnaldo Caprai is a leading estate in Montefalco, Umbria, where it produced its first vintage in 1975. Montefalco Rosso DOC is a blend of Sangiovese (60 to 80 percent) and Sagrantino (10 to 25 percent), with the possible addition of other non-aromatic Umbrian red grapes, aged twelve months in French oak and at least four months in bottle, with an ageing potential of six to eight years.
Tasting Notes
The nose shows wild flowers, red fruits and a touch of nutmeg; on the palate it is dry and fresh, with just the right amount of softness balancing the tannins.
Pairing Recommendation
Serve at 18 C. Pairs with cured-meat hors d'oeuvres and medium-mature cheeses, succulent first courses, and roasts of white and red meats.
