Azienda Agricola G.D. Vajra is a family estate based in the village of Vergne, above Barolo in Piedmont. In 1971 Aldo Vajra was among the first in Piemonte to adopt organic farming, and the vineyards have been tended with grassing and spontaneous cover crops for nearly fifty years, certified organic. This Moscato d'Asti is made from 100 percent Moscato Bianco grown on steep old vineyards planted from 1965 onward between the hills of Mango and Santo Stefano Belbo, whose fine calcareous soils and excellent exposure are among the most storied crus for Moscato; grapes are picked at full ripeness and gently pressed, with fermentation in small batches to preserve the liveliest aromatics.
