Matias Riccitelli is the son of veteran Argentine winemaker Jorge Riccitelli (long of Catena and Norton); after harvests around the world, Matias returned to Mendoza and founded his own winery in 2009 in Las Compuertas, in the highest reaches of Lujan de Cuyo. "The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree" Malbec is sourced from two sites -- the rocky, clay soils of Perdriel in Lujan de Cuyo and the limestone soils of Gualtallary in the Uco Valley at 1,400 meters -- hand-picked, destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in small cement tanks, then aged in French oak barrels used through the next harvest.
