Profile & Story

Chateau Gombaude-Guillot sits on the Pomerol plateau, more rustic farmhouse than chateau, and represents a revolutionary approach to fine Bordeaux: proprietor Claire Laval is one of the few women vignerons in the region and was the first organic producer in Pomerol, earning certification in 1992 before introducing biodynamic principles to the estate's already progressive farming. The vineyard is planted to roughly 65% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with a small amount of old-vine Malbec reserved for the estate's other cuvees.

Tasting Notes

Sourced straight from the chateau, this 2014 sits at a perfect stage of its evolution, offering a striking aroma of sweet spice, woodsmoke, and earth alongside enduring notes of dark Merlot fruit; the palate is rich, full, and saturated with savory pungency, delivering depth and classic structure with a velvety touch before a long, satisfying finish.

Pairing Recommendation

A farmer's interpretation of mature Pomerol, ideal with roasted or braised red meats and earthy, savory dishes.
