Mazzi Recioto 'Le Calcarole'

The Mazzi estate has farmed the hills of Negrar, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, since the early 1900s. 'Le Calcarole' -- named for the 'calcareo', or limestone-rich, stony soil of its vineyard, which concentrates the fruit -- is a Recioto della Valpolicella made only in the best vintages, a practice the Mazzi family has followed for nearly thirty years. Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes are hand-harvested and dried on straw racks before pressing in early spring, with the resulting must aged in small oak barrels for about two years and bottled exclusively in 375ml format.
