Profile & Story

Hervé Rafflin took over his family's nearly 200-year-old winery in Ludes, on the Montagne de Reims, in 2001, converting the estate's 5 hectares of Premier Cru vineyard to certified organic viticulture and a natural winemaking philosophy. ‘La Meunier’ is a rare single-varietal Champagne made entirely from Pinot Meunier – the grape that dominates the Rafflin holdings – aged around five years before disgorgement and finished Extra Brut.

Tasting Notes

Fresh orchard fruit – apple and pear – with toasted brioche, almond, white flowers and a delicate mineral undertone on the nose; a vibrant mousse carries crisp apple, ripe pear and citrus zest on the palate, with honeyed, toasted-nut mid-palate notes and a long, clean, bracingly dry finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Suggested as an apéritif, and with oysters, caviar and other seafood; also said to pair well with poultry in creamy or citrus-based sauces (per retailer/importer notes).
