Laurence Manya Krief – 'Yoyo' – left a career in the Paris textile trade to farm 5 hectares of old vines in Banyuls-sur-Mer, on the Roussillon coast. She converted to organic farming in 2008 and works the steep terraces by hand, horse, and her mule Uma, growing mostly Grenache and Carignan across black-schist Banyuls parcels and granite soils in the Albères. ‘Bateau Ivre’ is built from old-vine Grenache Noir (vines up to about 80 years old) grown on granite in the Albères, given an 8-day semi-carbonic maceration in stainless steel with a short stint in barrel, bottled unfined and unfiltered with a very light sulfur addition (about 1g/hl).
