Profile & Story
Matthieu Barret is a seventh-generation vigneron whose grandfather founded Domaine du Coulet after WWII, farming Cornas fruit for houses like Chapoutier and Delas. Matthieu now runs the family's serious Cornas estate biodynamically while using this negociant label for a playful, more approachable range. For Petit Ours ('Little Bear'), he sources organic, biodynamically farmed Syrah from younger vines belonging to his friend Remi Pouizin in Visan, chosen specifically for bright fruit expression. The hand-harvested, fully destemmed grapes spend 15 days macerating and fermenting with indigenous yeasts in concrete, followed by 9 months of concrete aging.
Tasting Notes
Ripe blackberry, blueberry, and violet aromatics with a touch of peppery spice; juicy and vibrant on the palate, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and notes of black fruit, licorice, and herbs.
Pairing Recommendation
Grilled meat, aged cheese, and lamb.
