Giuseppe Russo returned to the family land on the northern slope of Mount Etna in 2005 to make, in his own words, "the best wines I can in this exceptional, often challenging but uniquely beautiful area"; the estate carries his father's name, Girolamo. 'Nerina', named for his mother, is an Etna Bianco DOC drawn from the contrade of San Lorenzo, Feudo and Calderara Sottana: 80% Carricante with 20% other indigenous varieties — Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico, Minnella and Coda di Volpe. Farming is certified organic, alcohol is 12.5%, and production runs to about 10,000 bottles.
