Based in the village of Thornich on the Mosel, the Ludes family has championed a traditional, uncompromising style of bracing, tensile, mineral-driven Riesling, with Julian Ludes now working alongside his uncle Hermann. 'Gackes Oben' comes from a prime central parcel of the Thornicher Ritsch above the 'Gackes', a small wall of slate, from roughly 70-75-year-old vines at the highest elevation of the vineyard. The 2023 was picked at 85° Oechsle and fermented spontaneously down to an off-dry 25 g/l of residual sugar — Kabinett feinherb. (Source: VomBoden, US importer.)
