Profile & Story
Krug Grande Cuvee was born from Joseph Krug's ambition to craft the very best champagne he could offer every year, regardless of annual variations in climate, and each year the house honours that vision with a new Edition. The 172eme Edition was composed around the harvest of 2016 and is a blend of 146 wines from 11 different years — the youngest from 2016, the oldest dating back to 1998 — with reserve wines from the house library making up 42% of the final blend. The final composition is 44% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier. In all, over 20 years of careful craftsmanship went into the bottle.
Tasting Notes
A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles. Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, marzipan and gingerbread; flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey. Krug recommends serving between 9°C and 12°C.
Pairing Recommendation
Lends itself to a wealth of culinary combinations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated — from an aged parmesan to turbot a la truffe. Enjoy as an aperitif with Jabugo ham and mature Comte, or with oysters, grilled shrimp, Indian or Moroccan food, and desserts such as carrot cake, tarte Tatin and cheesecake.
