little boat is the Sonoma project of Jose Ignacio Cuenca, a Madrid-born entertainment journalist based in Los Angeles, who began making a California Pinot Noir in 2008 named for his only son, Mateo. In the spring of 2017 an eight-year-old Mateo introduced the traditional Cuban children's song 'Barquito de papel' at his school's 135th anniversary; asked to draw the little paper boat afterwards, his sketch became the label and the name of the project. Following a trip to Sonoma with his friend and distributor Mike Miller, Jose teamed up with vineyard owner Brad Alper and winemaker William Knuttel to make the wines. The Rose is drawn principally from Pinot Noir grown in Sonoma County.
