Trimbach Riesling "Sélection de Vieilles Vignes" 2022

Since 1626 the Trimbach family has been a reference point for fine Alsace wine, and is one of the region's largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards — about a third of total production. Winemaking is managed by 12th-generation Pierre alongside his nephew Julien, with Pierre's brother Jean and daughter Anne as global ambassadors; the house was certified HVE-3 in 2023. The Riesling 'Selection de Vieilles Vignes' comes from the Ribeauville fault line: over-70-year-old vines in Grand Cru Rosacker and the lieu-dit Muehlforst at Hunawihr, both on Muschelkalk limestone facing south-east and south, plus 60-year-plus vines in the lieu-dit Vorderer Haguenau at Ribeauville — nicknamed the 'Little Geisberg' — on south-facing marl and limestone. Grapes are handpicked as late as possible, gently pressed in a pneumatic press and fermented three to four weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with no malolactic fermentation and no long lees ageing in order to preserve freshness; the wine sees no oak and is vinified to complete dryness with no residual sugar.
