Conundrum Wines began at the dinner table of Charlie Wagner Sr., co-founder of Caymus Vineyards, who enjoyed blending wines to complement his meals, an unconventional approach at the time that led to the launch of Conundrum White in 1989. Following that same exploratory spirit, a red blend was introduced in 2011, a wine the family describes as "serious yet approachable." Now based in Rutherford, California under the Wagner Family of Wine, Conundrum continues its founding tradition through Charlie Wagner II, sourcing grapes from diverse California regions, including Napa, Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Benito, Solano and Tulare Counties, and partnering with multigenerational farming families across both well-known and lesser-known growing areas. Conundrum Red Blend combines dark varietals including Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering aromas of ripe berries and plums warmed by a hint of cocoa, with a palate of dried fruit and chocolate-covered cherries balanced by subtle smokiness and rounded, smooth tannins.
