Profile & Story

Tenuta di Capezzana has been in the hands of the Contini Bonacossi family since 1926, on an estate in Carmignano, Tuscany, where vines and olives have been cultivated since Etruscan times. Ugo Contini Bonacossi, who returned from World War II with a degree in agriculture, modernized the property from a sharecropping estate into a contemporary wine operation, and the fourth generation, Beatrice, Filippo, and Benedetta, now runs the estate alongside their children, guided by a philosophy that unites heritage with organic, biodiversity-respecting farming. Villa di Capezzana Carmignano DOCG has been the estate's signature wine since its debut in 1925, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in steel before completing malolactic fermentation in French oak tonneaux, with part of the wine aged a minimum of 12 months in tonneaux and the remainder aged 16 months in large oak barrels. The wine shows an intense ruby red color with purplish highlights, aromas of sour cherry and raspberry alongside notes of mature fruit, spice, and leather, and a soft, enveloping palate with gentle tannins, good body, and a long finish that turns toward licorice.
