Profile & Story
G. Wanner is a small grower-Champagne label from the Cote de Sezanne made by Pierre Hugot, a young vigneron descended from a long line of Cramant winegrowers dating back to 1891. His primary project is Champagne Helene (Domaine d'Helene); G. Wanner -- named for his great-grandmother Helene Wanner -- is his second wine, a 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs disgorged at a low, extra-brut dosage.
Tasting Notes
The nose is delicate, opening with floral notes and hints of blood orange zest before aromas of fresh bread, peach, and mango emerge with air. The palate shows an uncommon density and finely etched, crystalline detail, with a rich, indulgent attack of orange and cherry-pit notes carrying through a long finish tinged with citrus, orange peel, and minerality.
Pairing Recommendation
Suggested as an aperitif, or at the table with river fish served alongside a carrot or sweet-potato puree.
