Profile & Story

La Staffa was founded in 1994 by the Baldi family in the Castelli di Jesi zone of the Marche, initially producing wine only for the family's own consumption; the estate has since grown to roughly 30 acres, some vines dating to the early 1970s. It is now run by Riccardo Baldi, who introduced biodynamic farming across all the vineyards, banning chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in favor of sulfur, copper, and herbal preparations. The wines are hand-crafted from estate-grown fruit, with total production around 50,000 bottles; Baldi was voted Best Winemaker for the Marche region at VinItaly 2018.

Tasting Notes

The nose shows crisp stone fruit alongside clementine and almond-flower notes. The palate is light and juicy, with tart white peaches and orange citrus leading to a dry, mineral finish.

Pairing Recommendation

A natural match for the seafood-driven cuisine of the Castelli di Jesi coast -- fresh fish, shellfish, and smoked fish -- with enough tension and structure to also stand up to roast pork or mushroom risotto.
