Profile & Story

Quinta do Noval's name first appears in Douro land registries in 1715, and the estate has been part of the AXA Millésimes group since 1993. This Tawny is a blend of old Ports from different vintages with an average age of 20 years, matured in 640-liter wooden casks called cascos. It is made from the traditional grapes of the Demarcated Region of the Douro — chiefly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão — trodden by foot and fermented in the estate's traditional lagares for maximum extraction.

Tasting Notes

The Noval 20 Year Old Tawny has an amber colour with golden highlights, showing great purity, unfailing nobility and perfect balance. Everything acquired during its ageing in wooden casks is perfectly integrated, with a highly complex range of aromas including dried fruit such as almonds and walnuts, cherries in brandy, and hints of salted caramel. Serve at 10-14°C; being filtered, it needs no decanting and is ready to drink as soon as it is opened, best enjoyed within three months of opening if kept in a cool place.
