Profile & Story

Quinta do Noval's name first appears in Douro land registries in 1715, and the estate has been part of the AXA Millésimes group since 1993. Noval 40 Year Old Tawny represents the memory of the estate across four decades, blending old Ports from different vintages with an average age of 40 years, matured in 640-liter wooden casks called cascos. It is made from the traditional grapes of the Demarcated Region of the Douro — chiefly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão — trodden by foot and fermented in the estate's traditional lagares for maximum extraction.

Tasting Notes

This 40 Year Old Tawny offers remarkable concentration from its slow evolution in contact with wood. The aromatic range has developed enormously, revealing an elegant bouquet reminiscent of almonds and walnuts that gives the wine its unique character. Velvety on the palate, it shows a perfect balance between powerful aromas and elegant ageing, with a long, seductive finish. Serve at 10-14°C; being filtered, it needs no decanting and is ready to drink as soon as it is opened, best enjoyed within three months of opening if kept in a cool place.
