Au Bon Climat was founded in 1982 by Jim Clendenen (with early partner Adam Tolmach) in Santa Barbara County, pioneering Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California; this Santa Barbara County Chardonnay, the winery's introductory bottling, has been made every vintage since 1982. The 2023 is 100% Chardonnay sourced from farmed vineyards including Bien Nacido, Los Alamos, Rancho Real and North Canyon, handpicked and sorted, whole-cluster pressed, and barrel-fermented with full malolactic fermentation, aging 8 months sur lie in neutral French oak. 13.5% ABV, dry.
Tasting Notes
Producer tech-sheet note: fruit-forward and well-structured with finesse; flinty, stony aromas of citrus and stone fruit finishing with lemon/lime zest, with a background spice note of clove and nutmeg from sur lie barrel aging.
