Do Ferreiro is a small family winery in the Val do Salnes subzone of Rias Baixas, Galicia, founded by Gerardo Mendez, who helped establish the DO in 1988. Gerardo's children Manu and Encarna now run the estate, hand-farming over 175 tiny plots (vines 20-120+ years old) on decomposed granite/sand soil. Fermentation is spontaneous in stainless steel with indigenous yeast and no malolactic fermentation; the wine ages 6-9 months on lees, unfiltered. Farmed organically. ABV 13%.
