Profile & Story

The Collazzi estate sits in the hills near Florence, in Tavarnuzze (Impruneta), and has been owned by the Marchi family since 1933; the 400-hectare property includes 25 hectares of vineyard and 140 hectares of olive groves, alongside the Locanda Collazzi restaurant and hospitality venue. Alongside its flagship Toscana IGT wines - Collazzi, Ferro, and Liberta, and the white Otto Muri - the estate produces I Bastioni, its Chianti Classico DOCG, first released in the 2002 vintage. The wine is sourced from seven hectares of vineyard in San Casciano Val di Pesa, within the Chianti Classico denomination, planted on clay-and-limestone soils with some sandy sections rich in minerals; the vines average twenty-five years of age, and the estate's continental climate, with cold winters and warm, dry summers, favors full ripening of Sangiovese. I Bastioni is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 18% Merlot, and 2% Malvasia Nera. Grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted, then fermented in temperature-controlled vats; malolactic fermentation takes place partly in barriques and partly in tank at 27 degrees C, and the wine ages a total of eighteen months in barriques, which lend it elegance and sapidity. It is bottled in 0.75-liter Bordeaux-style bottles.

Tasting Notes

I Bastioni shows a bright ruby color with garnet reflections. The nose offers black cherry compote alongside red berries and spice notes, while the palate is savory and complex, framed by a soft, captivating tannic structure and a long finish.
