Profile & Story

Laherte Frères traces its roots to 1889, when Jean-Baptiste Laherte founded the family estate and planted vines on the Chavot lands in the Champagne region. Now spanning seven generations, the roughly 11-hectare domaine is worked today by Thierry and Christian Laherte alongside Aurélien Laherte, the seventh generation, who has brought renewed energy to the estate since 2005 while continuing its terroir-focused approach. The Rosé de Meunier is made as a 'Rosé d'Assemblage,' drawing on the maturity of the estate's old Meunier vines, around 30 years of age, farmed according to ecological methods that respect nature. The blend is 100% Pinot Meunier, composed of 30% maceration wine, 10% red wine and 60% white wine, of which 40% is reserve wine aged in barrels, achieving what the house describes as a balance of fruit, complexity, structure and freshness. The grapes are picked by hand at full ripeness and pressed traditionally; alcoholic fermentation takes place in vats, foudres and barrels, with partial malolactic fermentation, and the wine is aged on fine lees before hand disgorgement at a dosage of 2.5 grams per liter.

Tasting Notes

Critic Antonio Galloni described the wine as dazzling, rich yet focused, with superb depth, calling it 'a magical Champagne in every way,' with orange peel, sweet red berry fruit, cranberry, mint and chalk among the aromas and flavors that develop in the glass (94/100). Wine Spectator scored it 90/100 and Gault Millau 15.5/20, while critic Peter Liem noted that although the first version was excellent, the current one is even livelier and more incisive, and truly delicious.
